Ottawa (October 28, 2008) – OC Transpo’s Rack & Roll program wraps up for the season on October 31 as the racks go back into storage for the winter. On average, cyclists use the bike racks 400 times a day as part of their commute, to get to school, or just for recreation. Started in 1999, the Rack & Roll program now has 307 rack-equipped buses that allow cyclists to combine busing and cycling for greater flexibility in their trip. The primary bus routes equipped with racks are routes 2, 85, 95, 96, 97, 118 and 145. Transitway routes 95, 96 and 97 continue to be the most popular routes due to their length of travel and hours of service, which enable cyclists to enjoy a wide variety of bike paths and destinations. The removal of all the bike racks will take several days, so some cyclists may be fortunate enough to get in a few final trips on buses that have not yet had their racks removed.
