| Ottawa Police will publish 2007 Ward Profiles | | | Ottawa (September 29, 2008) —The Ottawa Police Service is pleased to announce that the 2007 ward by ward profiles containing police and crime statistics will be published this fall. It is anticipated that the 2007 Ward Profiles will be released in late November. Residents can continue to access weekly and monthly calls for police assistance on the Ottawa Police website (www.ottawapolice.ca).On Monday, September 22nd at the Ottawa Police Services Board, the Ottawa Police Corporate Planning Section expressed concerns that its internally developed program to interpret and apply Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics (CCJS) methodology to OPS records had become statistically unstable. Given current budgetary constraints, the Ottawa Police had decided not to publish the report for 2007. “Interest from residents, City Councillors, community groups and the media as well as feedback from Ottawa Police Services Board has prompted the Service to review its decision and proceed with the release of 2007 ward profiles,” noted Chief Vern White. “The Service fully appreciates that the community continues to find ward level crime data and calls for police assistance of importance in knowing more about their immediate neighbourhood as well as the city of Ottawa.” In November, the Ottawa Police will issue an advisory to confirm when the 2007 Ward Profiles are posted online.
